Foreign language courses launched

Anna University has provided facilities in its campus for students to learn foreign languages starting with Japanese, German and French. These optional courses are being offered after college hours with faculty approved by the concerned embassies. The inaugural function of the foreign language courses was held on January 25 at the CEG campus, Anna University. Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan, while inaugurating the courses, emphasised that learning a foreign language would give a competitive edge to students in their search for good employment. He also reiterated that knowledge of foreign languages would enable students have direct interaction with academicians from those Universities and get access to state of the art technology available there.Sakura Ozaki, the Vice-Consul of the Japanese Embassy; Gabriele Landwehr, Director, Max Mueller Bhavan and Hema Parathasarathy, Head-Translation Cell from the Alliance Francaise de Madras, briefed the students on the value of such foreign language courses. Jasmine Hayakawa, MD, S&N Hayakawa Enterprises Pvt Ltd, who will be offering the Japanese course at Anna University, spoke on opportunities in Japan for bilingual engineering graduates.
