We at Hayakawa Japanese Language School & Cultural Center are delighted to invite everyone to join us in celebrating Hinamatsuri, the Japanese Doll’s Festival.
What is Hinamatsuri?Hinamatsuri, also known as Doll’s Day or Girls’ Day, is one of Japan’s traditional seasonal festivals, similar to Golu during Navaratri in India. Families celebrate by displaying beautifully crafted Hina dolls on tiered platforms covered in red cloth. These dolls represent the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians dressed in the Heian period’s court attire.
Beyond its stunning displays, Hinamatsuri is an auspicious occasion for families with daughters, symbolizing good fortune, happiness, and prosperity.
How Are We Celebrating at Hayakawa?At the heart of this festival are the Hina dolls, and we invite you to be part of our celebration. We encourage you to create and send in your own handmade Hina dolls, which we will proudly display during the event at Hayakawa till Kodomonohi.
How to Make the Dolls?Your Hina dolls can be as simple or intricate as you like. You may use any material, such as paper, clay, thermocol, or wood. You can create traditional Japanese Hina dolls or put your own creative spin on them.
How to Submit Your Dolls?Once your dolls are ready, you can:
- Send them via post or courier
- Drop them off in person at our Hayakawa Office
Important Date: Please ensure your dolls reach us before 1st March 2025.
Details regarding the event will be shared with all participants one day before the celebration.
